CHINA-TAIWAN: KMT CHAIRMAN AND CCP CC GENERAL SECRETARY MEET IN BEIJING

After almost six years the Chairman of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) journeyed to Beijing to meet the General Secretary of the Chinese Community Party (CCP) Central Committee (CC), President Xi Jinping on May 4, 2015.

Reports indicate that little substantive was discussed at this meeting between KMT's Eric Chu and Chinese President Xi Jinping.  During his speech, KMT Chairman Eric Chu spoke eloquently and without referring to his notes. Xi Jinping, quite unusually, according to one account, constantly referred to his written notes.
An interesting sidelight was the suggestion during a speech by Tung Shu-chen at Shanghai. Described as a businesswoman, Tung Shu-chen openly expressed her support for the KMT and proposed that taishang find Chinese spouses, make babies, and rear the offspring in China. A few hours after her speech, netizens in Taiwan discovered that in addition to being President of Tung’s Co, Ms. Tung Shu-chen is also Director General of the China Overseas Friendship Association (COFA), a unit of the CCP United Front Work Department.
