CHINA-INTERNAL: PLA-CAMPAIGN AGAINST CORRUPTION

The Chinese-language Bowen News outlet reported on June 22, 2015, that the Chinese Communist Party leadership under Xi Jinping has decided to send the case involving former Central Military Commission Vice Chairman General Guo Boxiong to the military procuratorate. It said an announcement will be made in the next few days, but because the case involves military secrets, the trial will not be held in public. Boxun cites news reports of Guo Boxiong's stone commemoration tablet being removed from the Laoshan Mountain battlefield site on the border between China and Vietnam as another signal that the decision on Guo Boxiong's case is about to be made public.

General Guo Boxiong is also charged with making money through illegal arms sales. According to Boxun, the PLA General Staff had a secret operation in Guangzhou to collect intelligence on Southeast Asia. The Boxun report says this is one reason the trial cannot be made public.

Guo Boxiong's family, including his son, son-in-law, younger brother and others were all involved in abuses of power and are presently under investigation. Guo Boxiong's younger brother Guo Boquan, who is Director of the Shaanxi Province Department of Civil Affairs, will soon be purged. Xinhua and China Central TV have in recent days also shone the spotlight on Guo Boxiong's son, 45-year-old Major General Guo Zhenggang. .

(Comment: General Guo was formally arrested on April 10, 2015 and his case is presently under investigation. He's being held in Beijing's notorious Qincheng Prison.)
