As part of rapid mobility exercises, a People's Liberation Army brigade from the Lanzhou Military Region boarded a high-speed train on May 14, 2015 and was transported to Xinjiang — 300 miles to the west. The exercises are part of preparations for rapid transportation of troops to sites of potential conflict along land borders.
