CHINA-GREECE: ECONOMIC BAILOUT

In a press briefing on July 6, 2015, China's Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping insisted that China is involved in finding a way to resolve the situation in Greece and that Beijing has been in discussions with both Athens and Brussels. He expressed optimism that the Greek debt crisis would be "appriopriately resolved" and that the Greek economy would recover with the hard work of all parties involved, noting that whatever happens will have an "important impact" on not just Greece and its people but the entire world.

Separately Yakov Berger, a senior researcher at Institute of Far Eastern Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences (IFES), told the Chinese-language website of Russian media outlet Sputnik, that "there is no way China will allow relations with Europe, its largest trade partner, to freeze over the crisis in Greece". Greece is a key platform for China to further penetrate the European market.  China has also been a serious investor in the Greek economy since the onset of the crisis, buying up public assets and increasing its share in Greece's largest commercial seaport of Pireaus.
