CHINA-US: RETURN OF CORRUPT OFFICIALS

There are strains in China-US relations caused by the US' refusal so far to return former CCP CC Politburo member Ling Jihua's businessman younger brother, Ling Wancheng. Ling Wancheng owns a 7,800-square-foot home, which he bought from a professional basketball player for US$2.5 million. US officials say that Ling Wancheng would have a treasure trove of information regarding the CCP and Chinese cadres close to Xi Jinping, which the Chinese would not like the US to have access to .

(Comment: According to US officials the Chinese government has in recent months been raising pressure on the Obama administration to return Ling Wangcheng, An arrangement was made in April between the US Department of Homeland Security and China’s Ministry of Public Security. Under that arrangement, signed during a visit to Beijing by Jeh Johnson, the US Secretary of Homeland Security, the United States would be able to repatriate many of the tens of thousands of Chinese currently in the United States awaiting deportation, some in American detention facilities. In return, the United States would help the Chinese track down wealthy fugitives from China living in the United States who might also be breaking American laws.)
