 51-year od Li Shulei, a close aide of Chinese President Xi Jinping has been appointed secretary of Beijing’s Commission for Disciplinary Inspection on January 3, 2016. His predecessor Ye Qingchun, 64, has reached retirement age. The appointment is being interpreted as signalling further intensification of the crackdown on corruption in Beijing.l.


(Comment: Li Shulei had been Chief of the Fujian Province Publicity Department for a year before his appointment and was Xi Jinping’s deputy in the Central Party School when Xi headed it from 2007 to 2012. Li Shulei wrote many speeches for Xi Jinping and the Hong Kong-based Yazhou Zhoukan reported that he wrote Xi Jinping’s speech to an arts and literature forum two years ago, where Xi Jinping demanded the sector should serve the people and socialism.

Li Shulei was admitted to Peking University in 1978 at the age of 14. He obtained a degree in library science and a masters and doctorate in literature before joining the Central Party School at 24. After two decades at the think tank, he became the school’s youngest vice-president at the age of 44.)
