CHINA-EU: XI JINPING'S VISIT TO CZECH REPUBLIC

 Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Prague on his first state visit to the Czech Republic on March 27, 2016. He will stay there till March 30, 2016. In a signed article published in the Czech paper Pravo on Saturday, Xi Jinping said China and the Czech Republic should “enhance mutual political trust”, and “firmly support” each other on issues concerning core interests. He said “We should step up regional cooperation by bringing into play the role of multilateral platforms” and that China and the EU should “follow the trend of peace, development and win-win cooperation”. During his visit Xi Jinping and his Czech counterpart Milos Zeman will discuss the issue of Chinese investment in the Danube-Oder-Elbe Canal.

On March 26, 2016, dozens of Chinese flags that had been hung up in the streets of Prague in recent days were ­defaced. Supporters of Tibet also demonstrated against Beijing’s policies in Tibet.
