CHINA-INTERNAL: PANAMA PAPERS

When contacted by the South China Morning Post on April 8, 2016, Hu Dehua, the businessman son of the former Communist Party chief Hu Yaobang who was ousted in 1987, said that he had nothing to hide. He said “When asked by the media, of course I should respond, I think this is very straightforward and there is nothing to hide.” He added “The registration was all above board using my own passport under my real name.” On why others did not respond, he said he did not know why others had chosen not to respond. “This is my style of doing things – a habit I’ve formed over all these the years, but I can’t demand everyone to be like me.” Hy Dehua also said that the registering of offshore companies was “a right of Chinese citizens” and “There is really no need to be secretive about it.”
