Japan's informal office in Taipei called the 'Interchange Association, Japan' has from December 31, 2016, been renamed 'The Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association'. China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted quickly to the change of name saying it was “extremely dissatisfied” by the Japanese government's implicit nod to Taiwan's Taiwaneseness.
