CHINA-INTERNAL: LEADERSHIP APPOINTMENTS

South China Morning Post on April 26, 2017, quoted two independent sources as saying that Xia Baolong, Party Secretary of Zhejiang province, will likely become the new head of the Central Politics and Legal Affairs Committee. Separately, the state-run authoritative Xinhua news agency reported on April 26, 2017, that Xia Baolong had left his Zhejiang party secretary position.

(Comment: Xia Baolong, who is known for his controversial campaign to remove crosses on top of church roofs in Zhejiang province and is a protege of Xi Jinping, would replace the incumbent Meng Jianzhu.)
