CHINA-INTERNAL: PLA NAVY'S 68TH FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY

South China Morning Post reported on April 25, 2017, that China's Ministry of National Defence erred in the official poster used to commemorate the anniversary. Online commentators pointed out that instead of the poster showing Chinese aircraft, it showed a Russian MiG-35 fighter aircraft on the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning's deck! Additionally, the three jets pictured flying into the skies were J-10 aircraft used by the country’s land-based forces and not the J-15s designated as carrier-based aircraft. Moreover, the two ships sailing alongside the Liaoning were US amphibious assault ships and not Chinese vessels! PLA Navy’s anniversary is particularly important for China as it coincides with the planned launch of its new domestically built aircraft carrier. The new aircraft carrier, which is still unnamed, will be launched once the tidal conditions are right at the dock in Dalian, China.
