CHINA-SRI LANKA: CHINA'S DONATION TO SRI LANKA'S PARLIAMENT

China has donated equipment, including office materials and laptops, estimated at 293,000 U.S. dollars to the Sri Lankan Parliament in order to further strengthen parliament to parliament ties between the two countries. On August 5, 2017, Sri Lankan Parliament Speaker Karu Jayasuriya accepted a donation of office equipment estimated at US$ 293,000/- from Yi Xianliang, China's Ambassador to Sri Lanka. At the ceremony,  Jayasuriya said over 100 parliamentarians had visited China on several programs with the support of China till now and that another 15 parliamentary members would visit China next week to undergo a program on disaster management..Yi Xianliang said China welcomed more local parliamentarians to visit China and he would also encourage more Chinese companies and investors to invest in Sri Lanka. The equipment was donated by the state-owned China National Corporation For Overseas Economic Cooperation.
