CHINA-UNITED FRONT:LIAISON WITH FOREIGN POLITICAL PARTIES

China's official news agency Xinhua reported on December 4, 2017, that a recent 4-day high-level political party conference in Beijing called 'Dialogue with World Political Parties High-level Meeting' had representatives of nearly 300 political parties and organizations from more than 120 countries. Addressing the opening session,Chinese President and General Secretary of the CCP Central Committee Xi Jinping said the CCP would neither import foreign models of development nor export the Chinese model. Zheng Yongnian, Director of the East Asian Institute at National University of Singapore, said Xi Jinping has acknowledged there is a Chinese model -- the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics adding the Chinese model offers an alternative, rather than a replacement, to the Western model. At the meeting, Xi Jinping listed some facts and figures that offered a glimpse at the CCP's willingness to share. It said China has till now dispatched more than 36,000 peacekeeping personnel; thousands of Chinese scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, technicians, medical workers, teachers and volunteers are working alongside locals in other developing countries to help change their destiny; and in the next five years, the CPC hopes to invite 15,000 members of foreign political parties to China for exchanges.

Sitaram Yechuri from the CPI(M) was among those who attended.
