CHINA-INTERNAL: LEADERSHIP - XI JINPING

China's official news agency Xinhua reported on December 14, 2017, that the CCP Central Committee on December 14, approved the founding of 10 research institutes on “Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era”. New research institutes have been set up in: the Central Party School (the party’s top training ground for up-and-coming cadres); the Ministry of Education; the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (the country’s top think tank); the National Defence University (the People’s Liberation Army training school for senior officers); the cities of Beijing and Shanghai; the province of Guangdong; and the prestigious Peking, Tsinghua and Renmin universities. The centres have sprung up after at least 20 universities across China set up research facilities on Xi’s thoughts after the 19th Party Congress in October 2017. Renmin University was first among Chinese universities to set up the research centre on October 25. At that time the Centre Executive Director Liu Wei told the party-run Guangming Daily that the facility’s “unique duty” was to “push forward Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era into the textbooks, the classrooms and the brains [of pupils]”.
