CHINA-PLA: HOT LINE FOR PUBLIC

The state-owned Global Times announced on December 29, 2017 that effective January 1, 2018, China will launch a website that allows members of the public to make tip-offs on information suspected of undermining national security and rumors about the military. The website will be launched by the Central Military Commission (CMC) and the public will be encouraged to tip off comments that smear the PLA's image, attack the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) over the PLA or incite animosity between the military and civilians. It said other illicit behaviors that could be reported include falsifying a military unit or membership; publishing information that is harmful or insulting to the military; and using online accounts without approval or revealing a soldier's personal identity.
