CHINA-TIBET: 'SPIRIT' OF 19TH PARTY CONGRESS TO PROMOTE HERITAGE OF TIBETAN BUDDHISM

In an article published in Tibet Daily on December 20, 2017, Dawa Tsering, member of the Shannan Municipal CPPCC Standing, Vice Chairman of the Tibet Branch of the Buddhist Association of China and President of the Buddhist Association of Nan Shan, Samye Monastery monks, disclosed that  'guided by the Spirit' of the 19th Party Congress religious circles in Shannan City "organized propaganda groups to conduct propaganda activities in various temples and monasteries and monasteries, setting off a wave of studying the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the Ninth National Committee of the CPC Central Committee and the CPC Central Committee". He said the 19th Party Congress had emphasised the importance of "doing a good job in religious work in the new era and put forth specific requirements" and that this inspired the religious circles. Expressing the support of religious groups for "building a well-off society in an all-round way and of socialism with Chinese characteristics in a new era", Dawa Tsering described 'Xi Jinping's socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era' as the "guiding light for our Tibetan Buddhism to adapt to the socialism with Chinese characteristics". He said to study and implement the spirit of the 19th Plenary Session of the Party and the 3rd Plenary Session of the Ninth District CPC Committee, it is necessary to fully implement the party's basic guidelines for religious work, adhere to the direction of Tibetan Buddhism in China and make positive contributions to the great new era. Among the tasks, he listed were to "guide the temple monks and nuns and religious believers to actively participate in the socialist modernization with Chinese characteristics in a new era"; to "seize the special social contradictions in Tibet, insist on safeguarding the unification of the motherland and strengthening national unity"; and to "resolutely oppose separatism, make a clear distinction with the Dalai clique, and maintain harmony among religions, harmony between Buddhism and temples and temples". He asked "temple monks and nuns and believers" to make TAR Party Secretary Wu Yingjie's 'important' speech on "promoting the conformity of Tibetan Buddhism and socialism" known to every family and comprehensively implement the spirit of the National and Regional Conferences on Religious Work. He urged them to study and implement the newly revised "Regulations on Religious Affairs" and "actively cooperate with the party and the government in administering religious affairs in accordance with the law so as to raise the standard of legalization in religious work".He concluded with the exhortation to monks and nuns to "promote the healthy heritage of Tibetan Buddhism in a new era".
