CHINA-INTERNAL: SECURITY CRACKDOWN ON PEOPLE DISCUSSING 'JUNE 4' EVENT

Mingpao on January 18, 2018 reported that at least two young Maoists had been detained for organising reading groups and talking about 'June Fourth'. 24-year old Zhang Yunfan, who graduated from the Philosophy Department of Peking University in 2016 and claimed to be a "Marxist" and "follower of Mao", was arrested by public security personnel for talking about the '4 June event' at a book-reading session at Guangzhou Industrial University on November 15 last year. He was accused of "disturbing social order by gathering people". Sun Tingting, who graduated from Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2016 and then worked as a social worker in Panyu University City, Guangzhou, was also apprehended by public security authorities for talking about the '4 June incident'.
