CHINA-TIBET: MONKS IN TAR'S CPPCC REDUCED

The first session of the Eleventh Tibet Committee of the CPPCC (hereinafter referred to as the CPPCC National Committee) was held in Lhasa on January 23, 2018. The Political Consultative Conference of the Tibet Autonomous Region had decided to "streamline" meetings and reduce the number of members moderately. Accordingly the new session of the CPPCC National Committee has a total of 519 members, a decrease of 15.6% from the previous 615 persons. The new  CPPCC National Committee in Tibet has a total of 80  monks and nuns, accounting for the highest proportion of the 16 sectors.
Gao Yang, Vice Chairman of the Tenth Tibet Autonomous Region Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, in his report said that of 2405 proposals introduced in the past 5 years 2347 were accepted by the CPPCC of Tibet Autonomous Region. He said the members' satisfaction and basic satisfaction rate have reached over 98%. During the sessions members of the CPPCC National Committee of Tibet Autonomous Region, focussed on development, stability, ecology and concern about people's livelihood. Members were also highly concerned about the rapid development of Tibet and of 851 proposals submitted in the past five years, 36% included those on the development of the Internet finance economy and participation in the "Belt and Road Initiative". Dan Ke, Vice Chairman of the Tenth Tibet Autonomous Region Committee of the CPPCC, in his report to the Standing Committee of the CPPCC of the Tibet Autonomous Region said the CPPCC had worked for the past five years to resolutely safeguard China's national unity and security and national unity. A delegation of six provincial CPPCC delegations from the CPPCC organized by the Tibet Autonomous Region also went to more than 10 countries including India, Germany, Greece, Australia to make a good case for the story in Tibet.

The CPPCC of Tibet Autonomous Region invites officials from the Nepalese Consulate General in Lhasa each year to attend the meeting and understand the achievements of Tibet's reform and development.
