CHINA-VIETNAM: MILITARY EXCHANGE

 Phung Quang Thanh, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and Vietnam's Defense Minister, met Chinese State Councillor and Defence Minister Chang Wanquan, on October 17, 2014 in Beijing. Phung Quang Thanh, who is leading a large high-ranking Vietnamese military delegation to Peoples Republic of China (PRC), said he wished that the two militaries will be the key force to safeguard the Vietnam-China amity. Among the agreements reached,  both agreed "the two militaries will strengthen unity and provide staunch guarantee for consolidating the governing position of the Communist Party and safeguarding the socialist construction cause in both countries". They also said they would "honor the related major consensus reached by the Party and state leaders of the two countries and play a positive role in properly handling the maritime issues and safeguarding peace and stability". Among the PLA officers attending the meeting were Yi Xiaoguang, Deputy Chief of the PLA General Staff, Yin Fanglong, Deputy Director of the PLA General Political Department, Xu Fenlin, Commander of the PLA's Guangzhou Military Area Command, Du Jingchen, PLA Navy Deputy Commander, and Zhang Jianping, PLA Air Force Deputy Commander.
