CHINA-US:TIBET

The Chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region Lobsang Gyaltsen (Chinese: Luosang Jiangcun) is leading a delegation to Canada and the US from November 30, 2014. The delegation will visit Washington DC and New York and, according to Xinhua, will hold discussions with “parliament, government, think tanks, mainstream media, overseas Chinese and local Tibetans.”

In Vancouver, at the start of his tour, TAR Chairman Lobsang Gyaltsen stated that the Dalai Lama is responsible for the problems in Tibet, and that the Western media and “anti –China forces” are engaged in ‘deliberate distortion’ of the situation in Tibet. He suggested that people go to Tibet to look for themselves. Matteo Mecacci, President of the International Campaign for Tibet, said: “ The State Department had reported that its officials submitted more than 16 requests for diplomatic access to the Tibet Autonomous Region between May 2011 and November 2013, but only two were granted.”
