CHINA-ANTI-CORRUPTION CAMPAIGN

Two high-ranking executives of China Unicom namely Zhang Zhijiang, Unicom’s General Manager of Network Construction and Zong Xinhua, General Manager of the IT and E-Commerce Unit, were dismissed for “violations of discipline” after investigations by anti-corruption authorities. Zhang Zhijiang was dismissed on December 15, 2014, while Zong Xinhua was dismissed on December 18. Interestingly, China Central Television also recently accused China Mobile, one of the largest state-run telecommunications firms, of “robbery”. China Mobile has links to former Chinese President Jiang Zemin, leading to speculation that if this campaign unfolds then Jiang Zemin’s elder son, Jiang Mianheng, may be targetted.
