CHINA-ECONOMY: RARE EARTH EXPORTS
Following the WTO's decision that China's 15-year-old export controls, in the form of quota controls, on rare earths violated trade rules, China's Ministry of Commerce on December 31, 2014, dropped rare earths from a list of products subject to export quotas. Exporters now need only provide sales contracts to win export licenses. China accounts for 90 percent of the world’s production of rare earths.
