CHINA-INTERNAL: ELECTRONIC SURVEILLANCE

Caijing magazine on January 7, 2015, disclosed that an internet storm had erupted on January 7, after eagle-eyed readers found a list of equipment expenditures by the local police substation posted on its official website in the Wenzhou Economic and Technology Development Zone in Fujian province. The list included the 49,000-yuan purchase of surveillance equipment enabling police to remotely hijack Android and iPhone handsets for surveillance purposes.
