CHINA-INTERNAL: LEADERSHIP

Local Chinese media reports claimed on January 9, 2015, morning that Jiang Mianheng, son of former CCP General Secretary Jiang Zemin, had stepped down as head of the Shanghai branch of the China Academy of Science, after holding this key position for many years. Local media cited "old age" as a reason to explain Jiang Mianheng's departure. (Comment: It is unclear whether Jiang Mianheng might keep his other job as head of a new science and tech university that he helped to build and launch in Shanghai. If he doesn't, it could point to his being under investigation on charges of corruption.)
