CHINA-ANTI-CORRUPTION: PLA

The Liberation Army Daily reported on January 9, 2015, that the People's Liberation Army (PLA)'s General Political Department, General Logistics Department and the PLA Discipline Inspection Department had jointly issued a notice announcing that the PLA will start a two-year operation against malpractice and corruption in staff housing projects. The notice said that due to loose supervision, there are a number of problems in staff housing projects. The Chinese armed forces have built affordable housing projects for officers and servicemen since 1999 and they are supposed to be moderate in size and equipment and were not to be sold to civilians. However, the notice admitted that some housing projects exceeded budgets and were built for luxury use and that some were sold to staff at unusually cheap prices while others were sold to civilians.
