CHINA-INTERNAL: LEADERSHIP

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s official newspaper 'People’s Daily' and other Chinese media on February 25, 2015, gave prominent front-page coverage to what Xi Jinping has been calling the “Four Comprehensives.” These are a set of principles emphasizing the need to “comprehensively build a moderately prosperous society, comprehensively deepen reform, comprehensively govern the nation according to law and comprehensively be strict in governing the party.” According to the People's Daily, Xi Jinping introduced the idea during an inspection tour in eastern China’s Jiangsu province in mid-December and the phrase made a few scattered appearances on Chinese-language news websites earlier this month. The theory was, however, propagated on a wide scale for the first time on February 25, 2015, suggesting that it had earned widespread acceptance at the topmost echelons of the Party.
