CHINA-INTERNAL: ANTI-CORRUPTION CAMPAIGN IN PLA

Major General Xing Yunming, former Head of the People's Liberation Army's General Political Department, was taken away by the PLA's anti-corruption watchdog body on February 17, 2015. Major General Xing Yunming was in charge of overseas espionage and is better known as the Vice Chairman of China's front organisation the China Association for International Friendly Contact, which used to earlier be called the Department of Enemy Work. He is a member of the CPPCC. Chinese Military observers say this, along with the detention of other officials of the Intelligence establishment, point to an overhaul of the Communist Party's intelligence wings. Major General Xing Yunming is also a former subordinate of General Xu Caihou, the disgraced former Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission who headed the General Political Department from 2002 to 2004. Xing Yunming is from Shandong province.
