CHINA-US: COOPERATION IN ANTI-CORRUPTION CAMPAIGN

China's official Xinhua news agency reported on April 11, 2015 that after meetings between China's Politburo Member and Secretary Politics and Law Commission Meng Jianzhu, Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun and US Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson, the US has promised support for China’s campaign to hunt corrupt officials fleeing abroad. The Chinese security authorities were quoted as saying the US supported the Chinese programmes “Sky Net” and “Operation Fox Hunt”, which are meant to coordinate a campaign to track down suspected corrupt officials who have fled overseas and to recover their assets. The Chinese government has given the US a priority list of more than 150 Chinese officials suspected of corruption and described as “economic fugitives” who are believed to have fled there.

China’s anti-corruption watchdog, the Central Discipline Inspection Commission (CDIC)  said last month that more than 500 suspects were repatriated to China last year, along with more than 3bn yuan ($484.32m).
