CHINA-LEADERSHIP: XI JINPING CHAIRS PBSC MEETING

Xi Jinping chaired a meeting of the Politburo Standing Committee (PBSC) convened on January 7, 2019, to hear work reports from the Party’s Central Secretariat, as well as Party groups from the: State Council; National People’s Congress ; Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC); Supreme People's Court ; and Supreme People's Procuratorate. These annual reports to the PBSC were begun in 2015, after Xi Jinping centralised authority.  A statement issued after the meeting stated “[The country is] facing a complex and grave international situation and formidable and difficult tasks to keep reform and development stable.” The Xinhua report said “The leading Party members' groups were urged to closely follow the CPC Central Committee with Xi at the core in terms of thinking, political orientation, and action” and that “They should always follow the guidance of the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.”
