The head of the Shanxi Public Security Bureau issued (September 5) a "wartime" order banning alcohol consumption by all provincial PSB employees from September 15 to October 4, to ensure nothing goes wrong during the 70th anniversary celebration period around October 1.

Separately, Chen Quanguo, Party Secretary of the Xinjiang-Uyghur Autonomous Region ordered officials to keep up the pressure in the run-up to China’s National Day. In a speech on September 2, he told security forces and officials to “maintain high pressure” in the region ahead of the 70th anniversary celebrations for the People’s Republic of China. He said they had to “resolutely implement measures to maintain stability” in the region.
