CHINA-HEALTH EMERGENCY: CHINA TO TEST COVID-19 VACCINE ON PATIENTS ABROAD
The South China Morning Post reports (April 3) that China hopes to conduct a large-scale test of a possible Covid-19 vaccine abroad in the worst-hit countries. The second and third stage trials would require thousands of subjects, and the worst-hit countries would help to produce faster results. The number of cases recorded in the US, Italy, Spain and Germany has surpassed China’s total. Major General Chen Wei, a top epidemiologist and virologist with the Academy of Military Medical Sciences, told the state-owned China Daily that if the initial results proved the vaccine was safe, China would look to test its effectiveness overseas. The first-stage initial results will be announced later this month.
