CHINA-NEPAL: CHINESE ENVOY MEETS NEPAL'S SENIOR COMMUNIST LEADERS DAYS PRIOR TO NEPAL COMMUNIST PARTY MEETING

The Kathmandu Post reported (May 2) that Chinese Ambassador Ms Hou Yanqi met Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma, NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal on April 30 in Kathmandu just days before a crucial meeting of the party's Secretariat. She is reported to have discussed the ongoing crisis in the ruling party, China's assistance to Nepal in the fight against Covid-19, and Nepal's support against the international politicisation of Covid-19 where a number of countries are trying to hold China accountable. No Nepal Foreign Ministry official was present. Bishnu Rijal, Deputy Chief of the party's international relations department, said Beijing is concerned over the disputes in the party and has been advising the Nepal politicians to remain united. Earlier this week Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke to Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari.
