CHINA-INDIA: PLA ESTABLISHES 5 NEW MILITIA UNITS IN TIBET MILITARY COMMAND

On the background of the conflict between the Chinese and Indian armed forces on the border and damage to both sides, the PLA Tibet Military Command and the Tibet Autonomous Region organized five militia units in Lhasa on June 15. According to a Chinese military media report on June 18, the Tibetan military on June 15 held a militia unit flag-giving ceremony at the Lhasa police district militia training base. The new units are the: Snow Eagle Air Patrol, Snow Pigeon Polar Communications Team, the Snow Wolf Extreme Climbing Team, Snow Fox Alpine Express Team, and the Snow Mastiff Plateau Fighting Team. The Chinese military media described the five militia teams as the elite forces of emergency response, and the militia support arms of logistics supplies to the army.
It said since the 19th Party Congress, the Tibet Military Region has promoted such transformation in building the armed forces. Highly skilled serving soldiers with high academic qualifications have been included in the militia units. The Commander of the Tibet Military Region, Wang Haijiang, said that the natural environment and traffic conditions in Tibet are complex, and it is difficult for ordinary forces to complete emergency response tasks such as Response and Support.
