CHINA-INDIA: FORMER DEPUTY COMMANDER OF NANJING MILITARY REGION COMMANDER SAYS INDIA'S TROOPS IN LADAKH ARE ONLY FOR 'SHOW'

In an article on China's social media posted on July 16, Lt. General Wang Hongguang, former Deputy Commander of the Nanjing Military Region, claimed that the 100,000 Indian troops deployed in Ladakh are just a show and they will not be able to sustain themselves in Ladakh in the winters. He said their deployment areas are steep mountainous terrain which are not suitable for large scale deployments except in the south-east of Siachen. Third, there are only 1 or 2 roads that can facilitate the mobilisation of heavy artillery mobilisation such as tanks. Fourth, Chinese forces are already at the mouth of the Galwan River and can easily disrupt the Darbuk-Shyok-DBO Road in a time of emergency and, therefore, the soldiers at Siachen will be "slaughtered". He speculated that "Modi will retain the 100,000 troops at the cost of their lives during the harsh winter even if half of them die there, and he might do this just to keep his domestic population happy".
