CHINA-ECONOMY: NEW SENIOR APPOINTMENTS AT CHINA'S FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS

i) Caixin reported (August 8) that 53-year old Zhou Xuedong, former Director of the General Executive Office of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), was named Vice President of the China Development Bank (CDB). He has 12 years experience in financial regulation and managing financial risks at the PBoC. He started at the CDB on August 4 and his duties at the central bank were taken over by his deputy Zhong Ping.

ii) Cai Jianchun, a former China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) official, was appointed as the new president of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, according to an official statement issued on August 7. Cai Jianchun was head of the CSRC’s department of listed company supervision before being named to the exchange’s No. 2 position behind the chairperson. He spent the last two decades at the CSRC.
