CHINA-PLA: PLA CONSTRUCTS SAM SITES NEAR MANSAROVAR LAKE IN TIBET

The Print, based on the latest available satellite imagery provided by an anonymous analyst using the twitter handle @detresfa_, reports that the Chinese military is constructing a surface-to-air missile site as well as other infrastructure on the banks of the Mansarovar Lake in the India-Nepal-China tri-junction area near the Lipulekh pass.  The analyst said other areas in Tibet where SAM sites or upgrades had been noted included Rutog County (near Pangong Tso), Ngari Gunsa Airport, Xigaze airport, Lhasa Gonggar airport and Nyingchi airport. The PLA is reportedly laying fibre-optic cables in areas secured through its preemptive manoeuvre in Eastern Ladakh, to enhance its Information Warfare capabilities.

(Comment: The tri-junction area has been mired in controversy since India inaugurated a new road in May, called the ‘Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra Route’, which almost goes up to Lipulekh Pass at the India-China border.)
