CHINA-LEADERSHIP: CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTER TO TRAVEL ABROAD FROM AUGUST 25 TO SEPTEMBER 1

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) announced (August 24)) that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is visiting Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, France, and Germany from August 25 to September 1. Reports on August 28, indicated that Arctic issues were discussed during the too level meetings in Oslo, along with multilateralism, vaccines, the free trade talks and ways of further incorporating Norway into the Belt and Road. Interestingly, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned, in reply to a question seeking Beijing's reaction in case Hongkong democracy activists were awarded the Nobel Prize, that China would "firmly reject" anyone who wants to use the Nobel peace prize to intervene in China’s internal affairs. He also repeated that the Coronavirus did not originate in China.
