Thereafter on September 19, Politburo member and Vice Premier Liu He made a survey in Mianyang, Sichuan, and a field trip to the China Academy of Engineering Physics, the "Chinese Academy of Physics." CCTV reported Liu He's visit and mentioned that Mianyang is an important national defense and military industry and scientific research and production base in China. It has 18 national scientific research institutes including the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 14 higher education institutions such as Southwest University of Science and Technology, 28 academicians of the "two institutes", and various majors. 237,000 technical personnel.
