CHINA-LEADERSHIP: POLITBURO MEETING DISCUSSED 'REGULATIONS ON POLITICAL WORK IN THE ARMY'

The CCP CC Politburo met on November 30 to review the "Regulations on Political Work in the Army," "Regulations on the Work of the United Front of the Communist Party of China," and "Regulations on the Protection of the Rights of Party Members of the Communist Party of China." CCP CC General Secretary Xi Jinping presided over the meeting. The meeting pointed out that political work is the lifeline of the people's army and can only be strengthened but not weakened and that revision of the "Regulations on Political Work in the Army" is an important measure to thoroughly implement Xi Jinping’s thoughts on socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era and the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress. It said to "implement the responsibility system of the Chairman of the Military Commission, to strengthen the party’s leadership over the military’s political work and to promote the full implementation of the new era political army building strategy, to ensure that our army will always be the people’s army under the party’s absolute leadership, and to ensure the effective fulfilment of the missions of the army in the new era. This is of great significance for achieving the party’s goal of strengthening the army in the new era and building the people’s army into a world-class army in an all-round way". It stressed the necessity of strengthening the centralized and unified leadership of the Party Central Committee and the Central Military Commission, consolidating the responsibility of party organizations at all levels to lead political work and create a new situation in military-political work. It said it is "necessary to focus on concentrating efforts to prepare for war", integrate political work into the entire process of military struggle preparation and continue to maintain a pure political ecology, persist in comprehensively and strictly governing the party and the military, and resolutely correct formalism and bureaucracy. The meeting also pointed out that the Party Central Committee has always attached great importance to the united front and united front work and that it is necessary to strengthen the party's centralized and unified leadership over the united front work.  Discussing amendment of the "Regulations on the Protection of the Rights of Party Members of the Communist Party of China" the Politburo said it is to give full play to the role of party members and unite "all party members more closely around the Party Central Committee, in order to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation Dream to fight together". The meeting emphasized "the fight against unhealthy trends and corruption with a clear-cut stand".
