CHINA-US: US IMPOSES RESTRICTIONS ON CHINESE INDIVIDUALS AND ENTITIES COMPLICIT IN LARGE-SCALE RECLAMATION OR USE OF COERCION ETC IN SOUTH CHINA SEA

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on January 14 issued a statement imposing visa restrictions on People’s Republic of China (PRC) individuals, including executives of state-owned enterprises and officials of the Chinese Communist Party and People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy, responsible for, or complicit in, either the large-scale reclamation, construction, or militarization of disputed outposts in the South China Sea, or the PRC’s use of coercion against Southeast Asian claimants to inhibit their access to offshore resources in the South China Sea.  Immediate family members may be subject to these visa restrictions as well.  The restrictions are pursuant to Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
