CHINA-US: GUANGMING DAILY ARTICLE ASSERTS THAT AMERICAN DEMOCRACY IS NOT GOOD DEMOCRACY "LET ALONE A UNIVERSAL DEMOCRACY"

A lengthy article captioned 'the morbidity of American democracy' was published by Guangming Daily (January 16) which explained that "America’s democracy may only be as short as fifty. Years of history can only be traced back to the "Voting Rights Act" of 1965, which in its form stipulated that no one should be deprived of the right to vote because of race and color". It said that although the Democrats won the 2020 election, "the social division caused by "Trumpism" is becoming the norm in the United States, and the politics of anger and hatred will become Trump's legacy to American democracy". Dilating on the mishandling of the pandemic and  distrust between the Republican and Democrats. It highlighted the role of financing in the US elections saying that "super donations have turned the US election into a game for the rich" and cited as example the total expenditures for the 2020 general election of "a staggering record, reaching nearly 14 billion U.S. dollars" with the top 10 donors having donated more than US$640 million and Biden receiving more than $74 million from Wall Street figures at the end of the 2020 election, and Trump receiving $18 million. In conclusion it said "for the crisis of American democracy, the riot in the Capitol will not end as the incident subsides, but may be the beginning of new signs. Regardless of the future, one thing is certain. A democratic system that brings divisions and turmoil is not a good democracy, let alone a universal democracy".
