The Global Times (February 1) reported that the PLA sent warplanes for exercises near the Taiwan Straits almost every day in January 2021. A separate Liberty Times report claims that only on January 1, 8, 10 and 21, did the PLA not enter Taiwan’s ADIZ. On one occasion, however, the US reconnaissance aircraft was in the same southwestern part of Taiwan’s ADIZ as five PLA aircraft, claimed Taiwan’s Defence Ministry. It was the first time the ministry had mentioned the presence of US military aircraft since mid-September when it began giving almost daily reports on Chinese military activities in its ADIZ.
