CHINA-DISSIDENCE: XU ZHANGRUN'S FRIEND GENG XIAONAN SENTENCED TO 3 YEARS IN PRISON

Ms. Geng Xiaonan, a publisher and friend of Xu Zhangrun, a former professor at Tsinghua University Law School, was charged with "illegal business operations." The case was heard on February 9 and Geng Xiaonan was sentenced to three years in prison. Her husband Qin Zhen was sentenced to two and a half years in prison, and his sentence was suspended for three years. According to the court website, Geng Xiaonan stated in court that she admitted all charges and that all illegal acts were completed under her instructions, and hoped that the court will focus the punishment on her. Xu Zhangrun had planned to go to the court in the morning to support her but was forbidden to go out. Some friends of Geng Xiaonan were also prevented from entering the court.
