CHINA-US: CHINESE FRIENDSHIP ASSOCIATION HOLDS FIRST VIDEO CONFERENCE WITH U.S. STATE LEGISLATIVE LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION AFTER BIDEN ASSUMES OFFICE

Xinhua (March 2) reported that the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and the US State Legislative Leadership Foundation jointly held the 5th China-U.S. Provinces and States Video conference of the Legislature Cooperation Forum. it said this forum is the first China-U.S. exchange and cooperation mechanism activity resumed after the new U.S. government took office. CPAFFC Lin Songtian said in his speech that the Sino-US Provincial and State Legislature Cooperation Forum was one of the important achievements of President Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States in 2015 and is intended to promote mutually beneficial cooperation and enhance the friendship between the peoples of China and the United States. He said that the biggest perplexity in Sino-US relations is the problem of understanding, and the fundamental way out lies in making wise strategic choices. Regis, Chairman of the US State Legislative Leadership Foundation, said that although the United States and China have differences and competition, they face many common challenges such as pandemic diseases, poverty, infrastructure construction, and climate change. They should strengthen dialogue on the basis of mutual respect.  He said to enhance mutual trust the US State Legislative Leaders Foundation will continue to cooperate with the CPAFFC. Chinese ambassador to the U.S., Cui Tiankai sent a video message to the forum, stating that there are a thousand reasons for Sino-US relations to get better, and no reason to go bad. The heads of the standing committees of Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi, Jiangsu, Hubei, Guangdong, and Yunnan, and the leaders of the seven states of Alabama, California, Delaware, Hawaii, Iowa, Michigan, and Tennessee attended and spoke at the meeting.
