CHINA-PLA: LT. GENERAL WANG KAI APPOINTED NEW COMMANDER OF PLA TIBET MILITARY REGION

The South China Morning Post (April 29) disclosed that Lieutenant General Wang Kai has been appointed a new Commander of the Tibet Military Region. Prior to this, Lt General Wang Kai commanded the Chongqing-based 13th Group Army called “Tiger in the mountains” for eight years. The 13th Group Army became part of the new 77th Group Army in 2017. Lieutenant General Wang Kai's appointment was discerned when he appeared in a Communist Party history education class on April 26 and was described as the new Commander of the Tibet Military Region. The 13th Group Army was regarded as the only Chinese force to have taken part in combat missions since 1949. It has the most battle honours of any Chinese group army since the Korean War in the 1950s.
