CHINA-S&T: CHINA ACCELERATES DEVELOPMENT OF S&T RESEARCH AND INNOVATION PLATFORMS APPROVED UNDER 14TH FIVE YEAR PLAN

The state-owned CCTV (May 9) reported that as per the "14th Five-Year Plan" and the 2035 long-term goal outline the construction of major scientific and technological innovation platforms such as the comprehensive national science centre is accelerating. It disclosed that at the Huairou Comprehensive National Science Center in Beijing, 5 major scientific installations, 11 science and education infrastructures and 13 cross-research platforms are under construction. As the first large scientific device that integrates extreme conditions such as ultra-high pressure, extremely low temperature, strong magnetic field, and ultra-fast light field, the comprehensive extreme condition experimental device will greatly enhance China's comprehensive strength in the fields of material science. It said all five major scientific installations in Huairou Science City will be completed during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period. The earth system numerical simulation device, which is planned to be completed and put into trial operation this year, will provide a new research paradigm for earth science research. CCTV News also said the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology have jointly approved the establishment of Beijing Huairou, Shanghai Zhangjiang, Anhui Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center and the Greater Bay Area Comprehensive National Science Center pilot zone. On the Science Island in Hefei, Anhui, the steady-state strong magnetic field device has also ushered in a new batch of experimental users in the past two days. It said in recent years, the construction of large-scale scientific installations in China has developed rapidly and the layout framework in 7 disciplines, including materials, energy, life, and engineering technology, has taken initial shape. CCTV revealed that there are 23 large-scale scientific installations under construction, and 27 large-scale scientific installations are in operation.
