CHINA-PLA: POST ON CHINESE MILITARY WEBSITE NOTES INDIA'S DECISION TO BUY LIGHT TANK FOR HIGH-ALTITUDE MOUNTAIN WARFARE

The popular Chinese social media chat site 'qq' on May 21 carried a post stating that India is currently looking for a light tank that can fight against China’s Type 15 light tank. It said last month, India released information on the demand for light tank procurement projects and that India plans to purchase 350 light tanks with a total value of 11.4 billion yuan. It noted India's "clear requirements" for the
weight of the tank, indicating that the combat weight cannot be higher than 25 tons. The post said, in contrast, China's Type-15 light tank can be said to be the most popular in the plateau environment. The tank weighs only 35 tons, and is equipped with an engine of more than 1,000 horsepower, which can reach a top speed of 70 kilometres per hour. It has a 105mm rifled gun which can effectively deal with the world’s most advanced third-generation main battle tank.
