CHINA-INDIA: PLA WEBSITE INDICATES REVIVED CHINESE INTEREST IN "RECOVERING" ARUNACHAL PRADESH

A PLA-maintained website on May 21, indicated revived Chinese interest in Arunachal Pradesh, which it said were in India's "illegal" occupation. It said while people's attention at home and abroad are focused on Ladakh,"some people have noticed that China’s southern Tibet has been illegally occupied by India for a long time. The 90,000 square kilometers of land has been occupied by India". It asked "What is so special about this land?" and "Why is India so obsessed with China's southern Tibet?" The article described the advantages of "southern Tibet" i.e. temperate climate, high average rainfall of 9,000 mm, high water reserves and the source of "many rivers, the most famous of which is the Yarlung Zangbo River. The water reserves of this river are extremely high, and the water flow is second only to the Yangtze River in China" and fertile land. It said "Plenty of precipitation and suitable temperature provide excellent growth conditions for plants. The trees here are extremely lush, and the forest coverage rate has reached an astonishing 90%." It described "The Yarlung Zangbo River Basin is also the cultural cradle of the Tibetan people. The fertile land on both sides of the strait has nurtured Tibetan compatriots for generations."
