CHINA-LEADERSHIP: NEW 'LEADING SMALL GROUP' CONSTITUTED FOR ACHIEVING CLIMATE GOALS

Executive Vice Premier Han Zheng chaired the first plenary meeting of the newly-formed Leading Small Group (LSG) for Peak Carbon and Carbon Neutrality on May 26. The new LSG's mission is to push the country to meet its goal of peak carbon emission by 2030, and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. The LSG's members are Vice Premier Liu He; State Councilor Wang Yong; Foreign Minister and State Councilor Wang Yi; and the Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) He Lifeng

(Comment: The NDRC has been tasked with drafting a plan for achieving peak carbon emissions by 2030, and it’s simultaneously developing industry-specific implementation plans.)
