CHINA-AFGHANISTAN: CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTER WANG YI HOLDS CHINA-AFGHANISTAN-PAKISTAN TRIPARTITE MEETING ON JUNE 3

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held the fourth session of the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue with his respective counterparts on June 3. The dialogue was initiated in 2017. Wang Yi offered a few suggestions for navigating the post-occupation era, including: adhering to the principle of an Afghan-led future; supporting negotiations with the Taliban, and assisting an orderly withdrawal of US troops. Wang Yi was reportedly upfront during the meeting about his concerns over “war” and “chaos” in the wake of Washington’s exit.

(Comment: The US officially began withdrawing troops from Afghanistan on May 1.)
